Impact of NCAA Proposal No. 2004-40 on the Sport of Wrestling

 

1. In January, the Management Council met and discussed the proposal (among
others) but did not defeat the proposal at this stage. Instead, they sent the proposal out for comment from the membership. The Management Council did not necessarily support the proposal however they supported further consideration by seeking membership input during the 60-day comment period.

2. The 60-day comment period started on January 11th and will expire on March 12th. During this time, it's important that coaches associations and the NCAA membership submit comments in support of or opposed to this particular proposal. Because coaches associations are not a member of the NCAA (but rather we are affiliate members), this might seem daunting however it's not. The NWCA plans to submit our comments via email to Randy Buhr of the NCAA, who will then be sure to include the comment information they provide in a supplement to Management Council for April.

 

3. In April, the Management Council will review this proposal (among
others) for the second time and render a decision (adoption or defeat or referral). If the Management Council defeats the proposal, it dies. If the Management Council adopts the proposal, the Board of Directors will review it and likely adopt it as well.
