NWCA Announces December Winners of the NCAA Women's Regional Wrestler Awards

MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the seven women's wrestling Region Wrestlers of the Month today. Following great months, Izabella Frezzo of New Jersey City University, Henlee Haynes of Presbyterian College, Jenavi Alejandro of Tiffin University, Amani Jones of North Central College, Kylie Rule of Wartburg College, Sterling Dias of the University of Iowa and Victoria Seal of Simon Fraser University took home the awards for December.

Frezzo posted a perfect record in December, going 7-0 to take Region One honors. Wrestling at 116 pounds, Frezzo leads the Gothic Knights in pins with eight and is second on the team with 16 wins at the end of December. She went 4-0 at the NCWWC Northeast Regional Duals with a pair of wins and two technical fall wins. She also owns a 10-0 technical fall win over eighth-ranked Emily Klein of East Stroudsburg University.

In Region Two, Haynes went 9-1 in December with three pins and three technical fall victories. She won the Wasps Open at 170 pounds with a 4-0 mark behind two technical falls and one pin. Later in the month, she finished runner-up in the Midlands, marking the third time during her rookie campaign she has finished in the top two. She defeated fifth-ranked Jade Herzer of UW-Stevens Point 6-4 in the semifinals at the event.

Alejandro takes the region three honors following a month that saw her go 17-1 with ten pins and four technical falls at 109 pounds. She also earned three wins over ranked NAIA opponents. She finished runner-up at the Soldier Salute Open after taking her lone defeat of the month by forfeit as she was unable to compete. Alejando posted an 8-0 record at the University of the Cumberlands Patriot duals and went 4-0 at the Kalahair Duals.

In Region Four, Jones stayed undefeated on the season, going 8-0 in December, finishing all eight matches early by fall or technical fall. She did not surrender a single point to an opponent wrestling at 123 pounds. At the North Central Open, she defeated University of Iowa's Calli Leng by fall in the semifinals and Iowa's Ava Rose in the finals by tech fall 10-0. She also won the Midlands Women's Championships, defeating 10th-ranked Alyssa Mahan of Presbyterian by 10-0 tech fall in the semifinals. In the final, she pinned Carissa Qureshi, an unattached opponent who defeated fifth-ranked Shelby Moore of McKendree University in the semifinals, preventing a top-five matchup in the championship bout.

Region Five has co-wrestlers of the month, Dias and Rule. Dias went 9-0 in the month with four pins and three technical falls AT 101 pounds. She went 6-0 at the Soldier Salute on her way to the 101 title. She owns an 18-1 record on the season, with her only loss being to teammate Emilie Gonzalez in the Princeton Open final.

Rule posted a 9-0 month as well, with two pins and six technical fall victories while going 3-0 against ranked opponents at 130 pounds. The three ranked wins were all against NAIA competition, while her lone superiority win came against the third-ranked competitor. Following the month, Rule remains undefeated on the season at 18-0. 

In Region Six, Seal helped Simon Fraser clinch the inaugural Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) women's wrestling conference title after the Red Leafs swept all three RMAC at the Desert Duals. Simon Fraser defeated fourth-ranked Colorado Mesa University, Adams State University, and Chadron State College and fell to the topped-ranked University of Iowa by one point. Seal was also named RMAC Women's Wrestler of the Week on December 5, wrestling at 123 pounds.

All seven are now eligible for National Wrestler of the Month, which will be announced on Thursday.
