NWCA Announces Winners of the NCAA Women's December Regional Wrestler of the Month Awards

Manheim, PA - The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) is proud to announce the December winners of the NCAA Women's Regional Wrestler of the Month awards. These outstanding athletes were nominated by their coaches and selected through a vote by the head coaches within their respective regions.

The December honorees are:

Region 1: Skylah Chakouian, Elmira
Overall Record: 1-0
Vs. Ranked Opponents: 1-0
Skylah bumped up a weight class for the team. She went out at 180 pounds and wrestled her way to a dominate pin again the number 1 wrestler at 180 pounds in region 2. This match helped secure the victory for the Elmira over #14 Lock Haven.
 
Region 2: Emily Klein, East Stroudsburg
Overall Record: 4-1
Vs. Ranked Opponents: 0-0
Won WASPS Open at 110 ... after falling to SHU's Lauren Nguyen in a dual, closed month with four consecutive wins, including the open title ... totaled a fall and two tech falls.
 
Region 3: May Cuyler, Presbyterian
Went a combined 8-0 at WASP Open & Midlands Championships...Won all four matches at WASP Open via Fall (three of those pins took less than 90 seconds)...Became the first women's wrestler at PC to take home 1st place at Midlands, collecting two wins by technical fall and another by pin (1:22)...Defeated Tiera Jimerson of North Central (10-7 decision) to win 1st at Midlands, who was ranked #7 in class 160...Cuyler is currently ranked #4 in the NWCA individual rankings...She has won four tournament titles this season already.
 
Region 4: Ciara Riner, Tiffin
Overall Record: 11-1
Vs. Ranked Opponents: 1-0
8-0 @131lbs in the month of December. All 11 victories in December via Fall or Tech Fall. Victory over Anna Dicugno (King) via Fall
 
Region 5: Sydney Petzinger, North Central
Overall Record: 10-0
Vs. Ranked Opponents: 4-0
Sydney was undefeated in December, including four wins over ranked opponents. She defeated #4 ranked Caitlyn Jackson of Lindenwood twice, once by tech fall 11-0 and once by decision 9-0. She also defeated #5 ranked Clare Booe of King and #10 ranked Mikayla Garcia of North Central. She won championships at both the North Central Open and the Midlands Championships, two of the tougher regular season tournaments in collegiate women's wrestling. She finished the month with 3 pins and 4 tech falls.
 
Region 6: Caitlyn Jackson, Lindenwood
Overall Record: 7-2
Vs. Ranked Opponents: 1-2
Two finals appearance's in December, tech fall over ranked opponent (Mendoza), win over national finalist (schufelt), tech fall vs multiple time AA (Gallegos)
 
Region 7: Kylie Rule, Wartburg
Overall Record: 4-0
Vs. Ranked Opponents: 1-0
Win over #5 at the time Ngao Shoua Whitethorn of UW-Stevens point on 12/5. Also avenged a loss from last season. Whitethorn finished 6th at the National Tournament and Rule finished 8th.
 
Region 8: Alison Evans, Colorado Mesa & Nichole Moore, Fort Hays State

Allison Evans
Overall Record: 7-0
Vs. Ranked Opponents: 1-0
Alison won the Chadron Open and then went a perfect 4-0 on the day at Desert Duals. She secured wins over 2024 All-American Kami Senlycki and #6 Paige Maher of Simon Fraser. 
Alison is now 11-2 for the season
 
Nichole Moore
Overall Record: 8-1
Vs. Ranked Opponents: 0-0
Moore was the champion of the 138 class at the FHSU-Bob Smith Open, going 4-0 with three shutouts (two by tech fall and one by decision) and a win on criteria to break a tie in the championship match. She then went 4-1 at the Jewell Duals in Liberty, Mo., where she had a shutout decision, a pair of falls, and a forfeit win. Her wins helped FHSU upset then #7 ranked Lindenwood and #25 William Jewell. Her only loss was to Nanea Estrella of Iowa, but she secured the lone team point scored by the Tigers against the Hawkeyes in dual action.

Each of these regional winners is now a finalist for the National Wrestler of the Month award, which will be announced tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 17.
