117 Pounds: Christianah Ogunsanya, William Penn (NAIA) vs Sage Mortimer, Grand Valley State (NCAA)
There's one thing you should know about Sage Mortimer: she's never out of a match. Her track record speaks for itself, with late heroics and gritty wins.Â
Take her 2024 U23 World Championship semifinal. She was on the verge of getting teched when she stepped over a turn to pin Japan's Umi Ito. Mortimer won a hard-fought 7-5 match in the finals against Natalia Pudova to nab 50 kg (110 lb) U23 gold.Â
Not all of her matches are close, though. She maintains a relentless pace and looks to end matches early. The Springville, Utah, native has earned a place as one of the most entertaining and exhilarating wrestlers in the United States.Â
She won the 2025 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships at 110 pounds after finishing second and third for King University. Mortimer has moved to 117 pounds after competing at 116 as a freshman.Â
Mortimer moved up to 53 kg (116 lbs) and finished fourth at the US Open and second at the World Team Trials. She's likely still adjusting to the new weight class, but has made consistent gains since moving up to 117 for her senior season.Â
Her task is tall at the 2025 NWCA All-Star Classic. Christianah Ogunsanya won the 2025 NAIA title at 117 pounds, outscoring four opponents 41-4. She made the 2024 Olympic Team for Nigeria before attending William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.Â
Ogunsanya has good straight shots and scores often from go-behinds — and she will make you pay for a bad shot.Â
This should be the most entertaining match at the NWCA All-Star Classic. Both are offensive juggernauts who like to score points. Conditioning and grit will be a factor.
And the last person to score might win.Â
