Glendale, Ariz.- Arizona Christian University (ACU) Athletics has announced the appointment of
Davy Miller as the first-ever head coach of its newly established women's wrestling program. Miller brings an impressive track record of success in both men's and women's wrestling, most recently leading Liberty High School's women's program to three consecutive state championships and national recognition.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach
Davy Miller to lead our new women's wrestling program," said
Dr. Peter Dryer, ACU Director of Athletics. "His exceptional achievements and dedication to developing student-athletes both on and off the mat make him the perfect choice to build our program."
Miller comes to ACU following a remarkable tenure at Liberty High School in Peoria, where he transformed the wrestling program into a state powerhouse. Under his leadership, the women's team claimed three straight Arizona State Championships (2022, 2023 & 2024) and achieved national rankings, including a #3 national ranking in 2023. His achievements were recently recognized with the 2024 National Women's Coach of the Year award for Arizona.
"I am honored to join Arizona Christian University and lead the inaugural women's wrestling program," said Miller. "Building a collegiate program from scratch is an exciting challenge, and I look forward to creating opportunities for young women to compete at the next level while developing them into outstanding athletes and citizens."
Miller's coaching philosophy extends beyond athletic achievement, emphasizing character development and community involvement. His experience includes eight years as a National Team Coach in Arizona for both men's and women's programs, where he has developed numerous State Champions, All-Americans, and National Champions.
A former collegiate wrestler himself, Miller competed at Garden City Community College, where he was ranked third nationally at the Junior College level, before transferring to the University of Oklahoma. His wrestling career began in Oklahoma under three-time All-American Jay Arneson, providing him with a deep understanding of the sport at all levels.
The addition of women's wrestling at ACU reflects the growing popularity of the sport nationwide and the university's commitment to expanding athletic opportunities for female student-athletes. The program will begin competition in the 2025-26 academic year.
