Patrick Defoe Named Misericordia University Women's Wrestling Coach

Patrick Defoe has been named the head women's wrestling coach at Misericordia University, Chuck Edkins, Director of Athletics, has announced.

Defoe spent last season as an assistant women's wrestling coach at SUNY-Alfred after three years as an assistant with the men's team.

Misericordia is entering its second season of women's wrestling as a varsity sport.

"I am excited to welcome Patrick Defoe to Misericordia University," said Edkins. "His experience in coaching and higher education will prove to be tremendous assets to the young women in our wrestling program."

Defoe was a varsity letterman at Alfred State where he earned his bachelor's degree in sport management.  He went on to earn his master's in strategic communication from Regis (MA) College.

In addition to coaching wrestling at his alma mater, Defoe has also worked in residence life and athletics operations at Alfred State.

"I am excited to join the Misericordia University athletics department and in particular the women's wrestling program," said Defoe.  "I look forward to the opportunity to build the women's wrestling program into a consistent winner."

Defoe has copper and bronze level certifications from USA Wrestling.

He coached 10 regional place-winners at Alfred State, including three national tournament qualifiers and one All-American. 

He coached three regional place-winners with the women's team and the program's first national tournament qualifier.
