He has helped produce 30 college wrestlers across various collegiate divisions (Division II, III, NAIA, JUCO, and NCWA), coaching 123 district placers, 87 regional qualifiers, and 25 state qualifiers, including one state champion. His freestyle and Greco-Roman coaching experience also includes guiding multiple champions and placers across junior and youth divisions.

"On behalf of McMurry University Athletics, I am thrilled to welcome Andy Garza as our new Head Men's and Women's Wrestling Coach," said Larry Dockery. His deep knowledge, competitive experience, and commitment to developing scholar-athletes make him a perfect fit for our program. We are incredibly excited about the leadership, energy, and vision he will bring to McMurry Wrestling, and we look forward to the impact he will have on our scholar-athletes both on and off the mat."

Before transitioning into a leadership role, Garza was a standout collegiate wrestler at York University in Nebraska, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Sport Management. As a four-year starter, he was a two-time KCAC Conference Ranked Wrestler ('21, '23) and helped lead his teams to a KCAC Conference Runner-Up finish in 2021 and a 3rd Place finish in 2025. His collegiate career was preceded by a highly successful high school tenure, during which he was a four-year starter, team captain, and three-time district champion. He graduated as his high school's all-time wins leader with 113 victories.

In addition to his wrestling accolades, Garza brings an elite background in combat sports to the War Hawk mat. He holds black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, and Taekwondo.
