Marco Retano Named Providence Head Women's Wrestling Coach

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence has announced the hiring of Marco Retano as the next Head Coach of the Argos women's wrestling program.

Retano stated, "I couldn't be more excited and honored to join a program with this kind of tradition and momentum. The standard here is already elite, and I'm looking forward to pushing that even further. My goal is simple. I want to help every athlete maximize their potential and reach their goals in athletics, academics, and in life."

Marco Retano joins UP after serving as the Eastern Oregon University men's and women's wrestling assistant coach since 2023. A former Mountaineer, Retano competed in wrestling for EOU, gaining firsthand experience as a student-athlete at the NAIA level.

Retano earned his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Sport as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching from Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon. He brings his passion for wrestling and athlete development to the University of Providence.

"We are excited to welcome our new women's wrestling coach, Marco Retano. Marco's commitment to excellence, integrity, and student-athlete development strongly aligns with the mission of the University of Providence. He brings a clear vision for continuing to build a competitive program while fostering a culture of accountability, respect, and growth. Beyond success on the mat, we are confident he will serve as a dedicated mentor and leader, positively impacting our student-athletes in the classroom, in competition, and in the community."
