Hill College is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Tischer as head coach of the men's and women's wrestling program.
Earlier this summer, the college announced the establishment of the wrestling program thanks to the support of the Board of Regents and a grant receivedfrom the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
The first season for the wrestling program will begin in the fall of 2027, with scholarship opportunities available starting this November. For the 2026–2027 academic year, Coach Tischer will be heavily recruiting athletes while the wrestling facility is being constructed in the former Student Center at the Hill County Campus.
"Building a Texas Junior College wrestling program is not about filling a position—it is about finding a trailblazer who can recruit excellence, inspire student athletes, and graduate champions. For Hill College, that leader is Head Coach Scott Tischer," said Dean of Students & Athletics Randy Graves.
Tischer comes to Hill College from Grapevine High School, in Grapevine, Texas, where he served as the head wrestling coach. Prior to that, he coached at Lovejoy High School in Lucas, Texas, for four years; then at Wahpeton High School in Wahpeton, North Dakota, for six years. He also served as the assistant coordinator of national events for the USA Wrestling Olympic Committee for two years.
Throughout his 21 years of coaching, he has led teams to six district championships, five regional championships, two dual state championships, two individual team state championships, and multiple top five and top 10 state finishes.
Tischer has coached 75 state placers, many of whom went on to compete at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) levels. He has also been named district coach of the year five times, regional coach of the year four times, and state coach of the year two times.
He holds a master's degree in sports administration and leadership as well as a bachelor's degree in physical education, teaching, and coaching, both from Dickinson State University (DSU) in North Dakota.

Building a program from the ground up in a community with such a rich athletic tradition is a rare and exciting opportunity. My immediate focus is to recruit student-athletes who excel both on the mat and in the classroom, establishing a culture of discipline, resilience, and academic excellence. I cannot wait to get to work, roll out the mats, and build a championship-caliber program that Rebel fans will be proud of," said Tischer.
Wrestling is now the eighth organized sport at Hill College, adding the 14th and 15th teams to the athletics program.
