Division II Men's Super Region Rookies of the Year Announced

Manheim, PA – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the NCAA Division II Super Region Rookies of the Year for the 2023-24 season.

The six finalists represent each of the NCAA Division II Super Regionals, and were nominated and voted on by the region's coaches. The coaches will now vote on the 2024 NCAA Division II Rookie of the Year from these six region honorees.
 
From Super Region 1, true freshman Layton Schmick of East Stroudsburg is the honoree. A 285 lb National Qualifier, Schmick was 3rd at the Super Region 1 tournament, but was unable to compete at Nationals due to injury. He was 30-4 on the season  
 
The Rookie of the Year from Super Region 2 is another true freshman in Avery Buonocore of UNC-Pembroke. Buonocore (17-8) was fourth at 141 pounds in Super Region 2, narrowly missing a trip to the NCAA tournament.
 
Luke Acuna of Ashland represents Super Region 3. A 125 lb National Qualifier, redshirt freshman Acuna (27-11) was also the Super Region 3 champion, and had 15 bonus point wins on the season.
 
Super Region 4 is represented by Maryville's Evan Binder. A true freshman, Binder (33-15) was a 133 lb National Qualifier, the runner-up at 133 in Super Region 4, and the Great Lakes Valley Conference Rookie of the Year.
 
In Super Region 5, UW-Parkside's Brody Hemauer is the Rookie of the Year. The 6th-place finisher at 174 at the NCAA Championships, Hemauer (24-12) was second at the Super Region 5 tournament, and was also named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Rookie of the Year.
 
The Super Region 6 finalist is Zach Ourada of Nebraska-Kearney. Ourada (25-7) finished 6th at 125 pounds at the NCAA Championships, and was also the Super Region 6 champion at 125. He was also named the MIAA Rookie of the Year.

Following the vote of the Coaches, the 2024 NCAA Division II Rookie of the Year will be announced next week.
