Manheim, PA – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the 2024 Division II Men's Super Region Wrestlers of the Year
The six Super Region Wrestlers of the Year represent each of the six regions, with these nominees now moving on to be voted for the Division II National Wrestler of the Year by the coaches.
From Super Region 1, 149 pound NCAA Division II National Champion Jacob Ealy is the Region Wrestler of the Year. Ealy was 31-2 on the season, and a Super Region 1 Champion. He had 22 bonus point wins and was 3rd Most Dominant, 5th in Tech Falls and 7th in Falls in DII.
The finalist from Super Region 2 is another National Champion in Gabe Hixenbaugh of Montevallo. Hixenbaugh, who closed out the year 31-0, was the first All-American and National Champion for Montevallo. He counted 20 bonus point wins on the season, and was the 6th Most Dominant wrestler in DII.
Super Region 3's Wrestler of the Year is Ty McGeary of West Liberty. The NCAA DII National Champion at 184 for the season season in a row, McGeary was a perfect 33-0 on the season and was also the Super Region 3 Champion. He had 24 bonus point wins and finished 2nd in the Most Dominant standings and 8th in the final Falls listing.
Derek Blubaugh of Indianapolis represents Super Region 4 as the Region Wrestler of the Year. The National Champion at 197, Blubaugh was also named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the National Championships, and was also the Great Lakes Valley Conference Wrestler of the Year. He was 34-2 on the season, the Super Region 4 Runner Up and counted 23 bonus point wins en route to finishing 9th Most Dominant in DII.
In Super Region 5, St. Cloud State's Nick Novak is the Region Wrestler of the Year. Novak finished runner up at 157 at the NCAA Championships. He was 27-1 on the season, the Super Region 5 Champion and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Year, and had 13 bonus point wins.
The Super Region 6 honoree is Cody Thompson of Colorado School of Mines. The 149 pound National Runner-up, Thompson was 26-3 on the season and was the Super Region 6 Champion. He had 15 bonus point wins on the season.
Following a vote of the coaches, the 2023-24 NCAA Division II National Wrestler of the Year will be announced by the NWCA next week.
