Gettysburg College Elevates Brosius to Head Coach

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Brad Brosius, who has served as an assistant coach on the Gettysburg wrestling staff for the last three seasons, has been named the next head coach, announced by Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation Mike Mattia.

Brosius joined the Bullets staff prior to the 2021-22 season and made an immediate impact on the program. In his first season at the college ranks, he helped coach five placewinners at the conference championship as well as three regional medalists and three Scholar All-Americans. He also was part of the staff that mentored the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year (Luke Kowalski) and the championship's Most Outstanding Wrestler in Eric Mougalian. A year later, he helped mentor Kowalski to a conference championship, Most Outstanding Wrestler honors and an All-America showing at the national championship.

"I am excited for the wrestling program to have Brad as its next head coach," Mattia said. "Not only does he have a wealth of wrestling coaching experience but he also has been a great mentor to the team both on and off the mat. I am confident that Brad and his staff will continue the great tradition of Gettysburg wrestling and help elevate it to new heights."

Brosius brought more than 30 years of coaching experience to Gettysburg and most recently served as the head senior high wrestling coach at Dover High School in Dover, PA from 2012-21. Brosius also served as the head junior high coach at West York from 2008-12 and, prior to that, was head youth coach for the Dover school district for many years.

"I am very excited and humbled to have been chosen to lead this young but very talented team," Brosius said. "The coaching staff looks to build on the solid foundation that has been established by mentoring and providing the resources to these young men to be the best possible people, students and wrestlers they can be. By doing this, we will attain our ultimate goal of providing a positive and rewarding experience of their time here at Gettysburg with memories that will last a lifetime."

Brosius, a USA Wrestling Silver Certified Coach, is the Director and a coach of the Modern Day Gladiators wrestling club in Central Pennsylvania. Since its inception in 2009, the club has produced 46 Greco-Roman, Freestyle, and Women's Freestyle All-Americans, 65 Northeast Regional Medalists, five Greco-Roman World Team Trials Qualifiers, five Olympic Training Center invitees, and three Pan-Am games gold medalists. Prior to the Modern Day Gladiator Club, Brosius coached with the Icebreakers Wrestling club. He also coached Freestyle and Greco-Roman at the Eagle Wrestling Club and Team Taz for many years.

In 2021, he served as the co-head coach of the U16 Greco-Roman national team champions and was an assistant in 2020 and 2021 for the U16 freestyle national champions.

Brosius coached the Pennsylvania Cadet and Junior National Team and was elected to the Board for PA USA Wrestling.

Brosius is a 1979 graduate of Penn State University where he majored in Civil Engineering. He was a Registered Professional Civil Engineer for over 40 years and recently retired as Vice President of a major civil engineering firm.

His best wrestling accomplishments came after his school years. He earned a bronze medal at the U.S. Master's Greco-Roman National Championships in Las Vegas in 2009. Brosius has also wrestled in five Masters World Championships including 1999 in Bucharest, Romania (Freestyle), 2000 in Freiburg, Germany (seventh-place Freestyle), 2015 in Athens, Greece (Greco-Roman), 2016 in Seinajoki, Finland (five-place Greco-Roman), and 2017 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria (fifth-place Greco-Roman and Freestyle).
