Chatham University to Launch Men's and Women's Wrestling Programs

PITTSBURGH - On Thursday, Chatham University doubled-down on its commitment to the development of athletics with the announcement of Men's and Women's Wrestling, Athletic Alley and the Purple & Gray Club.

"I am delighted to share exciting news about Chatham's continued growth and commitment to further activating Chatham Eastside, enhancing student life, supporting athletic excellence, and fostering community engagement," said Dr. Rhonda Phillps, Chatham President.

Wrestling Programs

Vice President of Athletics and Recreation Leonard Trevino has announced the addition of Men's and Women's Wrestling as the school's 24th and 25th intercollegiate programs.

These programs, which join Women's Flag Football and Competitive Cheer as recent additions to Chatham, are set to begin competition in the fall of 2026.

"The addition of these programs continues the positive trajectory of athletics at Chatham University," shared Trevino. "We are excited to add these two sports and are committed to support and build competitive wrestling programs. We will begin a nationwide search for both a head Men's Wrestling and a head Women's Wrestling coach."

Athletic Alley

In conjunction with these new programs, Chatham is also unveiling the plan for "Athletic Alley", which aims to serve as a hub for athletics, health & wellness and community engagement at Chatham's Eastside campus.

Amenities to be featured at Athletic Alley include:
  • A designated wrestling practice room, which will serve the new programs, and a multi-purpose room, which will serve competitive cheer and can be utilized by all teams.
  • A state-of-the-art weight room/training facility specifically designed to meet the needs of Chatham's athletic programs, while being inviting to the general population.
  • Locker rooms, which will benefit teams and general users at Eastside. They are scheduled for the 2026-27 school year.
  • Batting cages and a bullpen area, which will aid Chatham's Baseball and Softball programs.
Purple & Gray Club

In an effort to further develop athletics and enhance student experience, Chatham has announced the founding of the Purple & Gray Club, which will financially support the Athletic Alley project and future athletic initiatives.

"Our student-athletes have found great success both on the field of play and in the classroom, and we invite you to help us continue our investment in our student-athletes," said Trevino.
