138 Pounds: Zaynah McBryde, Life (NAIA) vs Katie Lange, Grand Valley State (NCAA)

This is a rare treat, with the 2025 138-pound NAIA champion squaring off against the 2025 NCWWC (NCAA) champ.

McBryde torched the field at nationals, outscoring four opponents by a 38-0 count.

Lange did, too. She outscored five opponents 44-0, including a quarterfinal fall where she was up 4-0 on Nina Makem, her former Augsburg teammate.

McBryde maintains a solid stance and executes her neutral offense from an underhook or a two-on-one. She likes to bring the action to the mat and scores most of her takedowns with a go-behind.

Lange hits a head-to-the-inside single to the right side, often lifting the leg before scoring a takedown. She transitioned from a high-crotch to a fall against Makem, so she's willing to diversify her leg attacks if they are open.

USA Wrestling women's national team coach Terry Steiner called Lange a "brawler, fighter, a real worker and a grinder." That applies to McBryde, too.

His description is a precursor for what this match should look like. Both are stingy and will fight hard through every position. Don't expect many scrambles — just good, hard-nosed wrestling between two quality wrestlers.
